The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has always been the segment leader with decent looks, adequate space and proper pricing. But then the trend of the Indian car industry changed and people were in search of affordable cars with latest features and all this was possible with the launch of Tata Tiago & New Hyundai Santro. With these two new launches, the WagonR was left far behind. Maruti Suzuki is launching the all new WagonR on 23rd January, so it will be new Maruti WagonR Vs Hyundai Santro Vs Tata Tiago.
The new WagonR is decent in styling. It is 3655 mm, 1620 mm and 1675 mm in length, width and height respectively. It has got the longest wheelbase in the segment and an expected ground clearance of 170 mm. WagonR is the lightest car if we compare between tiago, santro & WagonR. It gets a fuel tank of 32 litres.
The Tiago is the best looking car of the segment. It is 3746 mm, 1647 mm and 1535 mm in length, width and height respectively. It gets a wheelbase of 2400 mm and ground clearance of 170 mm. Tata also offers 15 inch alloy wheels in the Tiago.
Santro also looks decent in terms of exterior styling. It is 3610 mm, 1645 mm and 1560 mm in length, width and height respectively. It has a wheel base of 2400 mm and ground clearance of 167 mm. The 14 inch alloy wheels are offered in the top end variant.
All the three hatchbacks get touchscreen infotainment system with bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Also, all of them get steering mounted controls and 2 airbags, seat belt reminder for the safety.
Engine & Performance
Maruti Suzuki WagonR- The new WagonR will get two engine options which are 1 litre (68bhp/90Ps) engine and a 1.2 litre (83bhp/113Ps) engine. Both engines will be available in manual as well as automatic transmissions. The new WagonR will be lighter than its predecessor and all its competitors, so we think it will also give a mileage better than all.
Tata Tiago- The Tata Tiago gets 1.2 litre (84bhp/114Nm) 3 cylinder engine mated to 5 speed MT and AMT transmission. In petrol, it promises a mileage of 23.84 kmpl, whereas in diesel it gives 27.28 kmpl. But, according to customer reviews the engine of the Tiago is bit noisy which is the reason that people choose Santro or WagonR over Tiago.
Hyundai Santro- The Hyundai Santro is powered with 1.1 litre (68bhp/99Nm) 4 cylinder engine. It is mated to 5 speed manual & automatic transmission. The petrol variant returns a mileage of 20.3 kmpl whereas the CNG variant promises 30 kmpl mileage.
When we look at all the factors like exterior styling, interiors and safety, the Tiago is the winner here but if we go by reliability, brand name and mileage which is most important for the Indians, then we think that WagonR will be the winner.
